Julie McNiel Arts - paintings and drawings
In "Ten Suns One Daughter", a girl in red becomes the exuberant shield placed between
the arrows and a group of young women seen in the right corner. These workers are making dolls
(China, today, produces most of the world's toys)
in a factory setting. The painting, "Red Rabbit Moon" also explores the Moon Lady myth.
Baby girls flow up and through the painting, as one, in red, escapes the ceaseless flow. Above smoke stacks,
the Rabbit in the Moon, a symbol of endless fertility, continues her travels
through not a night sky, but one darkened by fumes.
